Sally the Seagull flew through the air and spotted a struggling fish. Sally decided to take a closer look to see if she could help the fish. “Hey fish, what’s got you struggling so?” she asked. “I got caught up” replied the fish. “That fisherman is trying to take me for a ride” the fish continued. Sally looked up and saw the fisherman trying to reel in the fish. Sally thought for a moment, “why don’t you ask him to let you go?” she said. “Well I never thought of that,” remarked the fish. So the fish got up all of its might, jumped out of the water and yelled, “LET ME GO! Please!”, he said please because he was a polite fish after all. The fisherman didn’t move, he just kept trying to reel the fish in. “Well, what did he say?” asked Sally. “He doesn’t speak fish” replied the fish. Sally thought maybe she could try to talk to the fisherman. She flew over to him and said “excuse me, sir, but could you please let my friend the fish go?” But the fisherman only heard “caw, caw, caw caaaw, caw caw.” Sally flew back to the fish. The fish asked, “is he going to let me go?” “No” Sally replied, “he doesn’t speak seagull.” Just then a sea otter swam up, he had heard them talking and was wondering what the commotion was all about. The sea otter asked the fish, “what’s going on over here?”

European expansionism, where nations controlled large amounts of land in empires around the world, was also a factor. The War started in 1914. The Battle of Verdun was a months-long, bloody clash between the French and German armies in 1916. It was the longest battle of the war and resulted in hundreds of thousands of casualties. The Battles of the Isonzo were a series of 12 battles fought between the Italians and Austrians along the Italian Front from 1915 to1917. The armies were composed of Central Powers, which included Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire; and the Allies, which included France, Great Britain, Russia, Italy, Japan and later, the United States. 3. John Jr and Yuēhàn learned that the US joined in on the war because of Germany's submarine attacks on passenger and merchant ships in 1917 which became the primary motivation behind Wilson's decision to enter the War. New military technologies and trench warfare resulted in unprecedented levels of destruction and carnage. The Allied Powers won the war, which was declared over in 1918. 4. Elara the explorer was climbing Mount Gigglepuff! She bounced along the path, her backpack jiggling with only a yummy apple and a sparkly hair clip. But wait! A little boy, Timmy, tumbled and scraped his knee! Elara, super-helpful Elara, got out her sparkly hair clip (it was also a tiny first-aid kit!) and helped Timmy all better. Timmy, so happy, gave Elara a bouncy, red ball! "What will I do with a bouncy ball?" Elara giggled. Further up, a fluffy bunny, Barnaby, was stuck in a prickly bush! Elara carefully freed Barnaby, and Barnaby hopped away, leaving behind a shiny, smooth pebble! "A pebble? For what?" wondered Elara. Near the top, a tiny bird, Pip, had lost its nest! Elara found some soft leaves and helped Pip build a cozy new home. Pip chirped happily and dropped a bright yellow feather! "A feather? Why?" Elara chuckled. Finally, Elara reached the top of Mount Gigglepuff! But oh no! She'd forgotten her juice box, her yummy sandwich, and her silly hat! She was SO sad. Then, she remembered the gifts! The bouncy ball became a super fun bouncy seat! The smooth pebble was perfect for skipping across the mountaintop! And the bright yellow feather? It made a super-duper sparkly hat! Elara ate her apple, feeling very happy. She learned that helping others was the best adventure of all, and sometimes, the best things come in unexpected packages – like a bouncy ball, a pebble, and a feather! And Mount Gigglepuff was the best mountain EVER!
